32 Years of Dedicated Service to San Juan County

The flag pole below was dedicated in Honor to Vernon Wilks, District 5 Chief 1975 - 1993.

San Juan County Fire Department District 5 (Blanco) started by holding meetings at the Blanco School. The first Chief elected was Dennis Chavez. All of the fuel, equipment, and a garage was donated by the community.

District 5 covers an area of 93 square miles with 5 pieces of apparatus and approximately 10 volunteer firefighters operating out of one fire station.

District 5 serves San Juan County citizens along US Hwy 64 from the Bloomfield City limits to the County line. They also cover a portion of NM Hwy 511.

District 5 provides mutual aid support to District 7, 9, & 10. They also respond to Bloomfield when requested.
